“As a business owner, I used to deal directly with a banking representative. Initially we felt comfortable with banks, and they always seemed to be on board while we were smaller and moving forward (low debt, great cash flow).
They always spoke of partnership. But we also noted that banks review their lending practices and you need to change as they change their investment priorities. That’s their prerogative of course, but cannot comfortably coexist with a partnership.
Once things got a bit stiffer and the economic environment changed, they went from partner to predator. Their interest was 100% security, not good times and bad times together, just good times or nothing, a feeling of almost complete abandonment and the realisation that you were up against them also.
If you are a business owner I would just say trust Steve, he is very proactive and has a rigorous screening of the offers on the table. We could never have extracted the deals and refinancing rates that Steve achieved on our behalf. Look past the big jolly fast talking giant and see the genuine, honest, terrier salesman pitching 100% on your behalf, never his own. No persuasion for better commissions etc. He just lays it on the table and strive for the best result, always!
